The first two days

I’ll save the boring details of the plane ride, except to say that it was incredibly interesting to fly over areas that so frequently make the news and to be able to meet such interesting people who sat next to me.  On the first flight (from Chicago to Zurich), on which I was the most nervous, I sat next to a woman from Israel who had been visiting family in Dallas. It was incredibly interesting to hear her understanding of America, she explained that she travels frequently and has lived all over the world.  On the second plane (from Zurich to Dubai) I sat next to a man from Manchester, UK who was really interesting (and luckily he got up to use the bathroom several times).  On the last flight I got the seat to myself, because the flight was very short and late from Dubai to Muscat.

Last night we explored an old military fort, and walked around a bit. Everyone stays out late, sleeps during the afternoon, and wakes up early for prayer, because it's ramadan.

Today, we visited the grand Mosque here are some pictures.
